My Journey to
Get Well & Stay Strong

I didn't arrive at Rewire Reset as a health expert. I arrived as a patient — broken down, frustrated with doctors who had no real answers, and finally desperate enough to figure it out myself.

The Breaking Point

I thought the doctor
could fix me.

For years I outsourced my health. A new problem would appear, I'd see a specialist, get a procedure, move on. I genuinely believed that replacing my knee would reset things. That medicine would take care of it.

Instead, the problems multiplied. Seven surgeries and procedures in fourteen months. I was masking pain to get through the day — couldn't sleep, couldn't sit for more than half an hour, couldn't walk through a grocery store without stopping. I was spiraling, and no one in the medical system seemed to understand why.

1

The Back

Chronic pain that no one could fully explain — just manage.

2

The Knees

Knee replacement surgery. I thought fixing the hardware would fix me.

3

The Hip

Arthritis spreading. Pain from every direction.

4

The Ankle

Another joint giving out. The cascade wouldn't stop.

The Hidden Problem

The inflammation wasn't just in my joints.
It was in my head.

🧠

Couldn’t concentrate. Brain fog was constant.

💊

Pain medications dulling my focus and mental clarity.

😴

Couldn’t sleep through the night. Exhausted all the time.

🪑

Couldn’t sit for more than 30 minutes before needing to move.

🏢

After a few hours at my desk, my legs would go numb.

Not one doctor could explain why the inflammation was so severe.

A second opinion said I needed the knee redone. A neurosurgeon recommended spinal fusion surgery for the stenosis and nerve damage. I was staring at more procedures — more recovery, more masking symptoms — with no clear path to actually feeling well.

The Turning Point

This is stopping now.

I said no to more surgery. I had spent years treating my body like a collection of broken parts — each one fixed in isolation by a different specialist. It wasn't working. It was never going to work.

I took six months off work. My wife and I flew to Costa Rica — to Ojochal, a small coastal community overlooking the Pacific. It was as much symbolic as practical. We wanted to understand how healthy aging actually works, and to start with a clean slate.

The Stay Strong bracelets — still worn every day

“I stopped at a street vendor and bought two leather bracelets. I tied one on my wife's wrist and said: ‘Stay Strong. You'll remember this moment when things get tough.’”

— We still wear them every day.

The Education

Three books changed
everything.

My doctors couldn't answer my most basic questions. So I found the answers myself — and they were hiding in plain sight. The medical system treats symptoms. These books treated systems.

1

Built from Broken

Scott Hogan, CPT, COES

The body is a system, not a collection of parts. Pain at the symptom site often originates somewhere else entirely. Back, knees, and hips are the three most Googled pain searches — and they all connect. The answer starts with diet and movement, not surgery.

2

Atomic Habits

James Clear

I made building new routines a project. Workout area adjacent to my desk. Electronics out of the bedroom. Book on the pillow every night. Cleared the cupboards. Labeled the supplements. Small environmental changes that made the right habits automatic.

3

Good Energy

Casey Means, MD

This is where I finally got an answer. Cellular inflammation — impacting not just the wounded area, but sleep, cognition, energy, and every joint in the body. For the first time, I understood not just what was wrong, but how to actually fix it.

The work
begins.

Six months off work. A start date. A commitment to small steps, stacked daily, without shortcuts.

I lost 35 pounds — which meant 140 fewer pounds of pressure on my joints with every step. I found a functional medicine doctor and ran blood panels to identify specific nutrient deficiencies. I treated my health like a project worth executing well.

I had spent 30 years applying discipline and systems thinking to build businesses. I finally turned that same approach on myself.

🥗

Clean Nutrition First

My wife and I worked with a nutritionist and cut all processed food. Cupboards emptied and restocked. Morning gut-health routine with lemon water and trace minerals. Intermittent fasting. Quality supplements targeted to blood-test deficiencies.

🏊

Movement on My Terms

A former Navy SEAL friend gave me the best advice: get in the water. No joint pressure. I started walking laps in the shallow end for 30 minutes. Eventually worked up to swimming 60 laps, twice a week. Movement came back slowly — and that was fine.

🥊

Physical Therapy & Strength

After months of PT focused on the whole body — not just the knee — something clicked. Working the upper body made me stand taller. My back stopped hurting. My glutes engaged when I walked. It was the closest to normal I'd felt in years. And yes, the boxing is fun.

📊

Measuring What Matters

Progress stopped being one-dimensional. Apple Watch for heart rate and swim laps. Oura Ring for sleep quality. Hume Body Pod for body composition. I needed data — not just a feeling — to confirm the direction was right.

Where I Am Now

This is for life.
The journey has just begun.

My goals shifted from “walk to the back of a grocery store without pain” to getting back to flying, skiing, hiking, and exploring. Both goals got met.

Pain to discomfort

It hasn’t disappeared entirely — but I manage it, rather than it managing me. I understand what’s driving it, and I have a plan.

Brain fog to clarity

Concentration and short-term memory came back as inflammation receded. The connection between gut health, cellular inflammation, and cognitive function is real.

Bad habits to good ones

I crave the endorphin release from my workouts now. Morning routine is non-negotiable. The habits are locked in — not through willpower, but through environment design.

Back to what I love

Flying, skiing, hiking, traveling. We’re living actively again. That’s the real metric.

Hard-Won Clarity

What I wish I knew
before I started.

None of this is complicated in hindsight. But it took years of pain, thousands of dollars, and a lot of nights on Amazon ordering things with “knee” in the description before I understood these basics.

The medical system treats symptoms, not systems. Most doctors are excellent at diagnosing and fixing a specific problem in isolation. They are not trained to look at your body as a whole biological system. That part is on you.

Your body is a system of 30 trillion cells fed by what you eat. Most disease today originates at the cellular level — driven by diet, inflammation, and nutrient deficiency. Start there.

73% of the U.S. food supply is ultra-processed. This is not a personal failing. It is a structural problem. Knowing it changes how you shop, cook, and eat.

Don’t just mask pain and inflammation. Understand what’s driving them. Have a plan to move through them — not around them.

Exercise is the most powerful medicine available. Not a supplement. Not a procedure. Movement, done consistently, changes everything — joints, brain, metabolism, mood.

Mental and physical health are deeply connected. Cellular inflammation affects concentration, memory, and mood. Fix the body and the mind follows.

Don’t go alone. A nutritionist, a functional medicine doctor, a good PT, a partner who’s committed to the same thing — accountability and support matter as much as the plan.

Why I Built This

I lived this.
Then I built the roadmap.

Rewire Reset exists because I spent years making every mistake described above — and eventually found a way through. Not a shortcut. Not a protocol. A real, practical approach to rebuilding health that I wish someone had handed me at the start.

I spent 30+ years leading teams, building companies, and solving hard problems. When I finally turned that same discipline on my health, it worked. The same frameworks that make a business run — clear diagnosis, a realistic plan, execution systems, and accountability — apply directly to rebuilding your body.

If you're a man over 50 who knows he's let things slide — and is finally ready to stop guessing and take control — this is what I built for you.
